Read this detailed review of my experience with the Good Morning Snore Solution mouthpiece before you make your choice!

I’ve looked at more than a few mouthpieces in my time, and when I first stumbled across Good Morning Snore Solution (GMSS), I was a little hesitant about taking another look.

I was actually busy finishing reviews for several different MADs — Mandibular Advancement Devices — at the time.

Popping in another mouthpiece was the last thing on my mind.

When I looked closer at GMSS, though, I realized there was something genuinely unique here.

GMSS doesn’t look like any other mouthpiece I’ve ever seen.

Not only is GMSS not fitted like most other MADs, it doesn’t work by holding the jaw forward.

I was frankly curious to find out if GMSS was going to help me.

Personally I’ve had great success using mouthpieces to keep my snoring in check. I snore heavily, so I know that a MAD has to be pretty effective to help me out!

When I took a closer look at the information the manufacturer provides along with the Good Morning Snore Solution mouthpiece, things became a lot clearer.

Good Morning Snore Solution is actually a tongue retaining device, or TRD.

This was my first encounter with such a piece of equipment.

I have to admit that I wasn’t entirely swayed by reading just the promotional material.

The concepts behind GMSS were intriguing, though, so I decided to dig a little deeper.

My personal research turned up some very interesting facts about this TRD.

Anatomical Basics: How Your Airway Works

good morning snore solution mouthpiece review

With an oral device like this, you really need to have a good working knowledge of the anatomy behind snoring.

For starters, falling asleep causes muscle relaxation throughout your body.

The muscles that control your airway relax too.

As these muscles go slack, they’re drawn downwards into the opening of your throat by gravity.

This blocks off your airway partially.

In severe cases, where the airway blockage is complete, you lose your access to oxygen entirely.

This is what sleep apnea does.

Serious sleep apnea is a problem best handled by a doctor, preferably one with plenty of experience in sleep medicine.

People who experience less extreme blockages often snore.

This happens because the breath going in and out of the airway vibrates the slack muscle tissue, producing the familiar noises of snoring.

The Root Causes Of Snoring

So you’ve just read a little bit about the anatomy of snoring.

Why is it that only some people have snoring problems, though?

You probably have plenty of friends (and maybe family members) who rarely experience this issue.

What factors separate snorers from non-snorers?

Here are a few possibilities:

  • Genetics

It’s entirely possible that you inherited a set of physical characteristics that make you vulnerable to snoring from one or both of your parents.

Certain airway shapes are more prone to snoring, and other physical factors also impact the issue.

Having an overbite, for instance, (technically called malocclusion) narrows the airway to the recession of the jaw.

  • Excess Body Fat

You’re already well aware that being overweight can be unhealthy.

Snoring is just one more health issue that’s exacerbated by carrying around excess weight.

Any body fat you have around your neck can cause or contribute to a snoring problem.

The sheer weight of the extra tissue puts pressure on your airway and narrows it.

In severe cases, fat tissue is even enough to cause full-on sleep apnea. (How you hold your head when you sleep is a factor, too.)

  • Medication And Alcohol

Certain medications act as muscle relaxants, causing more slack in the muscular tissue surrounding the airway.

Alcohol has a similar effect.

There are also some medications that alter your sleep patterns and force you into deeper sleep states, and this can have a negative impact on snoring.

Good Morning Snore Solution Mouthpiece – The Potential Benefits

Mandibular Advancement Devices (MADs) have a lot going for them when it comes to treating snoring.

They work by pushing the jaw forward, adding tension to the muscles near the airway and reducing the likelihood of snoring.

The effectiveness of MADs in treating snoring have been clinically proven.

In contrast to the MAD model, a Tongue Retaining Device (TRD) like GMSS pulls the tongue rather than the jaw out of the airway.

This removes the tongue from the snoring equation and also adds tension on the other muscles in the area.

The effectiveness of GMSS is going to depend on the source of your specific snoring issue.

The tissues located right behind the tongue are some of the most frequent culprits in snoring problems.

If your case is like this, GMSS may well be the perfect solution to your own problem.

Good Morning Snore Solution – The Operating Principles

When you use GMSS, you attach a suction bulb to your tongue that nestles in between your lips and your teeth.

This bulb applies tension and draws your tongue forward.

Besides pulling the tongue out of the way, GMSS also takes up the slack in the muscles around your airway and keeps them from vibrating.

GMSS doesn’t require any custom fitting because it doesn’t need to get inside your mouth itself. (That also means you don’t have to get accustomed to falling asleep with a foreign object in there!)

Getting GMSS ready is a simple five step process:

  • Seat the device in between your lips and the outside of your teeth, letting the bulb extend from your mouth.
  • Use gentle pressure to squeeze the bulb.
  • Push the very tip of your tongue into the device.
  • Release the bulb and let the vacuum suction hold your tongue in place.

Good Morning Snore Solution mouthpiece – How Effective Is It?

The process of subjecting any medical device to proper clinical evaluation is time-consuming and costly, but GMSS has been through this ordeal.

The device’s creator, Dr. Leslie Dort, published the results of an extensive study on GMSS in 2008 in the “Journal of Sleep & Breathing.”

The study’s results are enlightening.

A full 70 percent of the people participating in the study reported that using a TRD helped prevent them from snoring.

Mandibular advancement devices are the popular go-to solution for serious snoring issues, and their success rate is comparable to this 70 percent figure.

Will Good Morning Snore Solution Work In Your Case?

If you snore constantly, the answer is most likely yes.

You don’t have to make any commitments to find out whether or not GMSS can help you. Here’s a simple test:

  • Make snoring noises.
  • Stick your tongue out and grasp it between your fingers and try to keep making the same sounds.

If you found it more difficult or even impossible to produce a snoring sound while holding your tongue, GMSS may well be exactly what you need.

My Experience With Good Morning Snore Solution Mouthpiece

In order to write a positive review of a product, I give it a go plenty of times to make sure it actually works.

I tested this product for 7 days and wrote in my journal about my experience with the good morning snore solution mouthpiece.

Below is a summary of my experience.

Night #1

Before I started using the good morning snore solution device, I cleaned it as per the instructions provided in the product.

A cleaning solution is provided with the product, as they tell you not to use hot water to clean the mouthpiece.

After leaving the mouthpiece in a cup with the cleaning solution for about 10 minutes, I was ready to test it out.

I read the instructions on how to fit the device into my mouth, which are quite clear, and to my surprise, it fit really well.

I gave the bulb a squeeze, put my tongue straight into the device and the mouthpiece pulled it naturally in the direction of the bulb.

After doing this, the air pressure made the device fit perfectly into my mouth.

It was not hard at all for me to sleep, as this device proved to be very comfortable.

Also, I am used to wearing these sorts of devices, so that must have helped as well.

After I woke up, I removed the device and did not feel any soreness or any pain in my mouth, which is rare with other snoring mouthpieces.

I felt I slept pretty well the entire night, but my thermometer when it comes to snoring is my wife.

I asked her if she heard me snore and she told me I slept very quietly and didn’t move around like I usually do.

Night #2

Again after washing the mouthpiece, I placed it in my mouth and fell asleep with ease.

When I woke up, I noticed a little soreness in my tongue, which was probably due to the suction of the device.

This soreness was very mild though, and compared with the frustration of not being able to sleep right, this soreness was a breeze.

Again, my wife told me that I did not snore and did not move around like a madman.

Night #3 to 7

Throughout this next week I slept really well and I felt I woke up more disposed and in a better mood.

My wife told me I slept like a baby the entire week and she begged me to keep using the mouthpiece forever.

The soreness in the tongue passed in the 4th night completely and did not came back again.

I really liked wearing the Good Morning Snore Solution mouthpiece.

I slept really well, my wife was happy and I didn’t feel any pain or discomfort in my mouth, apart from the mild soreness in my tongue.

Overall, this is one of the best anti-snoring devices I have ever tried and will surely keep using it.

Do You Need A Prescription?

good morning snore solution mouthpiece prescriptionI am writing a topic about this because it can get a bit confusing.

When you order from the manufacturer’s online website, they tell you that you might need a prescription from your doctor or dentist, and that they might contact them to verify.

This, however, is just a protocol and you do not need to worry about a prescription as the manufacturer doesn’t even ask you for your dentist’s contact in the checkout process.

If you think this is sketchy or illegal, don’t worry, it is not.

I will not go into legal details about products of this kind, but according to the Code of Federal Regulations, you are able to order anti-snoring mouthpieces online without prescriptions due to a clause regarding “adequate directions for use”.

In conclusion, do not worry about prescriptions.

It was designed and created by a renowned dentist in conjunction with a respected University.
